Chelsea's Carvalho out with anle ligament injury

March 26th: Chelsea will be without Portuguese central defender Ricardo Carvalho for at least four weeks after he injured ankle ligaments in Chelsea's 5-0 win over Portsmouth. It is not yet clear whether Carvalho needs surgery but his absence wll be a big blow for the blues in the run-up to the crucial end-game of a very tight season. Carvalho adds his name to an already full sick-list with Ashley Cole recovering from a broken ankle, Jose Bosingwa out for most of the season with an ankle injury too and midfleider Michael Essien suffering a serious knee injury.

Eduardo set to return to St Andrew's to face Birmingham

March 25th: Arsenal's Brazilian star Eduardo will be in the side that travels to Birrmingham on Saturday, the ground where he suffered an horrendous injury in 2008. The 27-year-old broke his leg and ankle in a challenge with Birmingham's Martin Taylor and was out for a year but has since made a strong comeback from the career-threatening injury. Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger commented: "Emotionally it is a weight on his mind. But Eduardo has a lot of mental strength. It's part of a career to show that you have the mental strength to deal with this kind of situation," Eduardo's injury was tragically echoed this season when Aaron Ramsay suffered a multiple fracture of his tibia and fibula against Stoke.

Owen Hargreaves returns to action after 18 month injury spell

March 19th: After 18 long months on the treatment and rehab trail, Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves finally returned to action last night in a reserve team fixture against Burnley.  He managed 45 minutes of the game and afterwards said "It was great today. I'm happy I can be back with an 11 against 11 and a referee." Hargreaves had surgery with renowned American specialist Dr Richard Steadman for tendinitis in both knees and has missed almost two full seasons. He now hopes to force his way back into United's first team and persuade Fabio Capello to include him in England's world cup squad.

England ring the changes for final game against Fance

March 18th: England have made six changes to the team to face France in Saturday's finale of the Six Nations. The two players who suffered head injuries against Scotland, Johnny Wilkinson and Ugo Monye, are replaced by Toby Flood and Chris Ashton despite Wilkinson being eligible for selection. Simon Shaw returns from his shoulder injury but captain Steve Borthwick remains a doubt with a knee injury that forced him to visit a specialist this week. Tom Palmer of Stade Francais has been drafted into the squad as a cover in case captain Borthwick doesn't make the matchday XV.
