Tottenham Hotspur's athletics plans

Spurs' plans to develop Crystal Palace athletics track

Tottenham Hotspur revealed plans yesterday to update the stadium at Crystal Palace once the 2012 Olympics are over. They are in a bid with West Ham for takeover of the Olympic Park following the games, and yesterday released a computer-generated image and plans for the future of the Crystal Palace venue in support of their bid.

Spurs argue that the site will be better off in their hands as they plan to add an extra 9500 seats to the stadium, boosting capacity to 25000. They also have longer term plans to add a further 15000, putting the stadium into 'International Olympics Venue' territory.

The plans do not stop merely with the venue. Under their Legacy plans, Spurs want to train and fund five young athletes in their preparation for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

We say: Any development of sport and athletics must be encouraged. We would be especially delighted if these plans went ahead in Crystal Palace as it is so close to us, and would hope to be involved either as a training facility or in offering physio support.
