Nokia Windsor Triathlon 2009

Welcome to the ESPH Triathlon blog space. I am a senior physiotherapist based at our Harley Street branch and a keen amateur Triathlete.  Over the past three years I have developed the Tri bug along with so many Britons. Did you know it is the fastest growing sport in the UK?!!

Over the next few months we hope to develop this blog into an interesting educational and informational tool for our members and the public alike.

Last weekend the Nokia Windsor Triathlon was my first Tri of the 2009 season.  Each year I am quickly reminded what a tough slog they are! No matter how I feel my training is going I can never quite prepare for the feeling of death on the first race of the year! That feeling of being completely legless going from bike to run is something I must work on in brick sessions in the coming weeks.  It ended up being my slowest time ever for the Olympic distance (2hr 32mins) but was a good benchmark for the season ahead.

Finally, for inspiration this season check out this clip featuring Julie Moss. Julie was leading the 1982 Hawaii world championships when fatigue overwhelmed her exhausted body just metres from the line. She dropped to the ground but was able to recover enough after every collapse to reach the finish; she found the strength to push the spectators away who were trying to help. Unfortunately for her it was not enough, and she was overtaken.
