Rio Ferdinand suffers back injury

February 24th: England's new football captain, Rio Ferdinand, will miss Sunday's Carling Cup final because of a back injury he sustained during training this week. This comes on the back of a four game suspension for violent conduct in the match against Hull City on January 23rd and a lengthy lay-off for a suspected calf injury earlier this season that may well be related to his back injury. Fears have grown over Ferdinand's long-term fitness this season and the latest episode may well mean he misses England's friendly against Egypt next week.
