circus injuries

Circus performers need great strength, flexibility and muscle control. Circus injuries can generally be categorised into repetitive and traumatic injuries. Repetitive injuries may result from overloading the body and during high intensity training. The body may not be adequately conditioned and strength and flexibility are insufficient to handle the demands of training. Many repetitive injuries can be prevented by screening to exclude imbalances and potential weaknesses that can be corrected with specific injury prevention programmes. Activities such as tumbling, acrobatics and trapeze can place great strains on the body, resulting in impact trauma. Traumatic injuries can be avoided with adequate stability and conditioning. At e s physical health we have many years experience of working with circus performers and students. Our physiotherapists are trained in motion analysis and biomechanics and can give advice on specific core stability, spinal and lower limb alignment, flexibility, strength and conditioning.
