muscle strains
A muscular strain or tear occurs when a muscle is overloaded either due to fatigue, overstretching, repetitive strain or trauma. There are three grades of muscular strain according to severity from grade one to three. An assessment will identify the grade from minimal injury and no loss of function to total rupture and your physiotherapist will plan a treatment programme relevant to the severity of your injury. A grade one injury should recover quickly so that you can go back to normal activities as soon as possible. A grade three injury may require a doctor's Oopinion with a possibility of surgical repair. Muscle strains in the lower limb can occur more commonly in running, football and rugby which require explosive muscle activity. Muscle strains in the upper limb are more common in sports such as tennis, competitive swimming and throwing activities.
